This 90 minute program will:
Present a Musical Troubadour Story
- In period costume
- With themes relating to the power of music, loyalty and love
Teach historical information about
- The troubadour movement and the crusades
- The history of the harp and woodwinds
- Troubadours, bards, minstrels and church music
Use the harp and woodwinds to demonstrate
- Medieval harmony
- Genres and styles of music
- How music can add drama to the spoken word
Be interactive through
- Movement
- Tableaux
- Questions
- A final quiz
Cover strands of the curriculum in
- Social Studies

The Program is most successful when
- Held in a space where movement is possible (i.e. a gym or auditorium)
- Limited to small groups (20 to 60 students)
Celtic Music and Story Workshop for J/K to Gr. 3 Students
With Tori Owen, woodwinds
This 50 minute program will:
Present a musical Scottish tale
- In period costumes
- With themes relating to the power of music, courage and friendship
Teach children about the following mythical water creatures
- Selkies
- Kelpies
- Mermaids
- The Loch Ness Monster
Foster an understanding and appreciation of
- The music and folklore of Celtic culture
- The value of storytelling in our world
Use the harp and other instruments to demonstrate
- The distinguishing sounds of stringed instruments and wind instruments
- How music can add drama to the spoken word
Be highly interactive through
- Singing
- Movement
- Use of puppets made by the children
- Questions and answers throughout the workshop
